- Win Server 2008 in general is the latest version of Server Operating System by Microsoft.
- Server 2008 enhances the concept of virtualization by adding the features of Hyper-V.
- Remote installation using Windows Deployment Services(WDS) is another excellent feature of Server 2008.
- Creating shadow copy for each and every folder. It is 32 bit operating system. its installation is faster then the previous version.
- Separate editor for GPO (Group Policy Object ) in Active Directory is introduced.
- Later we will discuss in further topics about migration from Server 2003 to Server 2008
Active Directory
Active Directory is special directory or database containing
information about the objects in hierarchal and organised manner. It is created by Microsoft for domain
networks where control and security measures are centralised. Server running
Active Directory is called Domain Controller.
Active Directory authenticate users and computer, implement
policies and manage the resources in domain network.
Installation
Another way to start installation is Runàdcpromo.exe
Press Enter
Installation of Active Directory is started
Click Next
Click Next
Create New domain à
then Next
Enter the domain Name “abc.com” the Next
Checking the name of Domain if it is already in use with in the same forest...
As this is first DC(domain controller) in forest. Change could be made up to different
functional level ........Then Next
DNS is already installed à Next
Click Next (integrating the DNS server with AD)
Enter the username and password of the local server (PC1)
where domain name “abc.com”

Click next (destination to store database)
Enter the password to
recover AD or to delete AD à

Installation of AD with all its components such as GPO is in process and will reboot on completion
After restart
