DNS is called Domain Name System use for name resolution.
Convert IP address to Human Understandable name (Reveres
look up zone) and name to IP Address (Forward look up zone)
DNS contain database of IP address and corresponding name
(Zone)
Installation of DNS
Click on Rolesà
Add rolesà
Nextà Click DNS Server
Click Install
Configuration of DNS
Start -- Administrative tool-- DNS
Click on local Server PC1
Click on local Server PC1
Right Click on Forward Lookup Zone (Creating New Zone)
Click on New Zone--Next--Primary Zone
Primary zone is main writable zone. Secondary zone is read
only it maintains the copy of primary zone. Secondary zone act as primary when
primary zone is down.
Stub zone is secondary in nature (Read only). It replicates
the selective data from master DNS.
Click Next
Enter the Domain Name. Domain Name can be Company Name.
Enter the zone name as abc.com. then click Next.
We are creating New Zone File . Click Next
Allow secure non secure updates for dynamic updates. Click Next
Check the Summary of New Zone and Click Finsh
Forward Look up Zone is created.
Reverse Look up Zone
Start--Administrative
tool--DNS-- Local Server (PC1)
Right Click on Reverse Lookup Zone--New Zone
StartàAdministrative
tool àDNS à Local Server (PC1)
Right Click on Reverse Lookup Zone àNew Zone
Click Primary Zone then Next
So far we are working on IPv4 Addressing select it then Next
Lets do some assumptions to create scenario
IP Address of Server is 192.168.1.1. This IP Address belongs
to C-Group having Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 thus Network ID is 192.168.1
Enter Network ID as 192.168.1
Click Next
Click Next
Allow both Secure non secure updates then Next
Click Finish
Forward Lookup Zone and reverse Lookup zone is created
